After completing more than 25 years of service, veteran Rappahannock newswoman Sarah C. Latham has stepped down as Associate Publisher of the Rappahannock News.
Mrs. Latham joined the News in 1956. when the paper was a tabloid owned by Basil Burke of Orange. She stayed with it through three more owners, signing on with the present company. the Fauquier Times Democrat Co., Warrenton, in 1977.
A native of Fairfax County, Mrs. Latham came to Rappahannock in 1940 when she married the late A. C. Latham, who had a store in Amissville. She joined the News in 1956, shortly after her husband’s death in an automobile accident left her the sole support of herself and her four daughters.
During her career with the News, Mrs. Latham has held a multitude of titles and positions, but her job was always the same: to produce, finance and distribute the best Rappahannock County newspaper e&ch week, without regard to the amount of travel, energy and midnight oil consumed.
