Hitt
Leonard Rollins Hitt of Silver Spring, Md., died Sunday, April 11, 1982 at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, Md.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 1 p.m. at the Amissville Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Paul Markee. Burial will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery.
Mr. Hitt, 73, was a retired press operator for the U. S. Government Printing Office. He was a native of Amissville and the son of the late Turner R. and Annie Louise Rollins Hitt.
Hitt served in the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve from 1934 to 1938. He re-enlisted in the Marine Corps in May 1942 and was honorably discharged on November 30, 1945. He participated in action aboard the U. S. S. Alaska from February 15, 1945 to June 8, 1945 and was aboard this vessel in Tokyo Bay at the time of the Japanese surrender.
He is survived by two brothers. Edmond A. Hitt of Harrisonburg and Wilson Hitt of Frederick, Md. and two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Eisenman of Amissville and Mrs. Marie Spicer of Stevensburg.
Estes
Miss Lucy Eleanor Estes, 92, of Washington, died Friday, April 9, 1982 in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Washington Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald Wiley. Burial was in Washington Masonic cemetery. Miss Estes was a native of Rappahannock County and a retired nurse. Her parents were the late Reuben and Lucy Settle Estes. She was a member of the Washington Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Mary E. Wrenn of Washington; one niece, Mrs. Heloise E. Pearson of Vienna and two nephews, M. Rutherford Estes and Charles W. Estes, both of New Castle.
