Commonwealth’s attorney Douglas Baumgardner announced last week that he will seek a declaratory judgement from the circuit court on whether the county school board must release certain documents sought under Virginia’s Freedom of Information Act.
Baumgardner's announcement is the culmination of events which began in August when the Rappahannock News requested a copy of an architectural report and budget analysis prepared by the architectmural firm of Mosely- Henning on the proposed central office-bus maintenance facility. The board refused to release the document.
The following week, the News requested a copy of a revised report from that same firm and a copy of an index salary scale proposal presented to the board. Both requests were denied.
The News then lodged a formal complaint with the commonwealth's attorney, charging the school board with violation of the Freedom of Information Act.
Baumgardner responded with a request of his own for the contested documents and in fo r m a t i o n previously sought by Olga Fontaine

Deadlines will be moved up next week so that the Rappahannock News can be off the presses in time for Thanksgiving.
