John R. Hershey, Business Manager of the Hagerstown Town and Country Almanack which has recently published its 186th edition, the 1983 issue, predicted that folks in this area are due for a chilly winter.
Hershey bases his predictions partly on the calculations of William O’Toole, weather prognosticator for the Almanack, and professor at Mt. St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, Md. O’Toole says that there will be at least 60 inches of snow, occurring mostly in December and February.
O'Toole says that he can claim a 75 percent accuracy rate for his predictions. He added that winter will end about March 28, Finishing a winter at least as cold as last year’s, with temperatures under normal for this area.
