I have been through all this before, and that is why I try to stay away from barrel measurements. Also, I have tried to work through the corn price, volume, barrel, bushel weight relationship with several people. I find this is a subject people either avoid or become emotional about. I try to avoid it.
Finally, I put the problem to Dr. Ike Eller, Extension Animal Scientist and Project Leader. The solution according to Eller l'/« c. ft. equals 1 bu. of shelled com or one bu. of wheat, barley, oats, etc. 2'/i cu. ft of car corn equals 1 bu. of shelled corn plus 1 bu. of cobs.
