With no opposition, the Washington town council voted at a public hearing last Wednesday, November 10. to grant the Board of Supervisors a special use permit to construct a radio dispatch tower at the rear of the jail. No one spoke either for or against the permit, although representatives from local rescue and fire crews were present.
The tower, to be built at the northeast corner of the jail and standing about eighty feet high, will enable Rappahannock to take calls locally and respond with immediate dispatch of police and emergency workers.
