Rappahannock County’s unemployment rate topped 11 percent in September, according to the latest manpower bulletin from Virginia Employment Commission offices in Culpeper.
In September. 2% persons out of a work force of 2,602 were idle, giving the county a jobless rate of 11.4 percent, the highest in the area. For the same period. Culpeper’s unemployment rate stood at 8.9 percent. Orange’s at 9.9 percent, Madison's at 9.2 percent and Fauquier’s at 4.7 percent. Areawide for the month of September, the jobless rate was 9.2 percent. At the same time, it was 7.4 percent for the state and 9.7 percent for the nation, according to the VEC bulletin.
