Four public hearings will be held March 14 by the State Board of Education to receive comments on proposed revisions in the standards for accrediting elementary and secondary schools in Virginia.
The hearings will be conducted by different members of the Board of Education. Both written and oral presentations will be accepted but the latter will be limited to a maximum of three minutes per person.
Each hearing will begin at 7 p.m. at the following locations: Indian River High School, Chesapeake; Student Union Building, George Mason University; Mills E. Godwin High School, Henrico County; and Radford (City) High School.
The standards, which affect almost every aspect of school operation, would become effective July 1, 1984, if approved
The proposed standards reflect an effort to strengthen student achievement in academic areas, especially in the secondary grades.
