He sentenced Martin to two years in the penitentiary and suspended one, ordering that the time run consecutively with the punishment imposed in the earlier trial and placing Martin on three years supervised probation. “The ball is in your court,” the judge said, as he ordered Martin’s release. “You have an opportunity to put all this behind you. You’re a good worker. You’ve got a good family situation. You’re a young man. I hope you make it,” Robertson said. But he added a warning, cautioning Martin that he would be brought back before the court if he violated the terms of his probation. “And this court can impose the part of your sentence that was suspended today,” the judge concluded.
