Anne Douglas Atherton, like Tompkins, works in the black and white medium. A native of Fauquier County, she studied at the Corcoran Gallery and recently completed a workshop under master photographer Ansell Adams. She’s been involved in various group shows and had her work exhibited at the Virginia Museum in Richmond but keeps photography a sideline, second in priority to her family. Atherton’s delicate nature studies, close-ups of forest and seaside plant life silouetted against bare backdrops, echo the style of classic oriental paintings.
Ross Chappie, a Canadian who settled in Hume, is a magician with color and lighting. For years a commercial photographer who has specialized in interior shots for such magazines as “Better Homes and Gardens,” Chappie has pounds and pounds of art negatives that he’s never had the opportunity to print.
