Both Guest and Miller noted that additional spaces in the Rappahannock jail that will be available after renovation will help alleviate the pressure on the state’s overcrowded prison system.
The state money, which will become available July 1, will reimburse the county for half the estimated $163,000 cost of the jail renovation. Rappahannock will be responsible for paying the other half with local dollars.
