gym and a reorganization of existing space for curriculum needs. They would know that three members are receptive to Estabrook’s ideas, one member is vehemently opposed to any discussion of capital outlay, and one member seems to be both for and against it.
They would know that the low-interest literary loan funds usually available for Virginia school construction have been frozen, and that the Superintendent wants to get Rappahannock’s needs on the waiting list so they’ll be there when the thaw comes.
They would know, if they’d been there Tuesday night, that the Superintendent is asking for $21,000 to allow an architect to design and provide cost estimates for the new construction.
They would know, finally, that school board meetings are sometimes tedious, always lengthy, and often marked by controversy and outright rudeness. Perhaps this is why more folks don’t attend. Perhaps most people already are satisfied to learn these facts from the Rappahannock News.
But the one thing we can’t do is attend next Tuesday’s meeting, scheduled for the community to respond to the superintendent’s budget and tell the board what you think of the proposal. The school board gives the public this opportunity, and it’s time to respond.
