“The footing is perfect!” announced Rappahannock Race Committee chairman Dave Carter after an inspection of the Thornton River Farm course, site of this Saturday’s point-topoint races.
“If the weather holds up, we anticipate a good crowd since this will be the first opportunity many folks will have for a spring outing,” Carter said.
In past years, the Rappahannock Hunt’s race day has brought snow, rain, frozen ground, chilly winds and ankle (and fetlock) deep mud—just about every type of condition unsuitable for racing. But television meteorologists are saying that Mother Nature has banished Old Man Winter, at least for this week, and are calling for Saturday to bring sunny skies and 70 degree temperatures.
