Next year, youngsters from Rappahannock and from schools throughout Virginia will be practicing for an event that will test their abilities and competitive spirit.
Students of all age groups will be applying their energies to Olympic competition, matching their skills against teams from other school districts. The competition will require practice, exercise and training. But this training will not take place on the field or in the gymn - students will be practicing for the Olympics of the Mind, a state-wide competition focusing on creative, problem solving. *
^Hebe’s how the- Olympics of the Mind works: students from participating schools compete locally for a position on their school’s creative problem solving team. Elimination trials are conducted by faculty coaches instructing them on the nature of the games and rules of competition.
Students trying out for the team work on problems that will be part of the actual competition. There are three levels of competition in Olympics of the Mind:
