Wakefield School in Huntly will enter its second decade on Friday, September 9, when school opens for the 1983-84 session.
As school opens, work progresses at Wakefield on a major new facility, begun in mid-June, which will double the floor space of the existing building. The new structure will contain a regulation size basketball court, stage, library, locker rooms and laboratories for computer science, physics and modem languages. The gymnasium part of the new building is scheduled for completion by mid-winter; the rest of the building should be ready for use by spring.
Over 85 new students, the largest number in the school’s history, will enter Wakefield for the fall term. When losses of nearly 30 graduated seniors and others are subtracted, the net gain in enrollment is over 35, with total enrollment still under the 400 student limit set by the school’s trustees.
