RAAC To Present Limelight

The Rappahannock Association For The Arts and the Community has selected Limelight for presentation this week at the Cay Street Theater.

Limelight was the creation of comic genius Charlie Chaplin who wrote, directed, scored and starred in the 1952 film about an aging music hall clown. In the most touching appearance of his career, Chaplin provides inspiration to a discouraged ballerina, played by Claire Bloom. Buster Keaton also appears.

Bosley Crowther, who reviewed Limelight for the New York Times in the fifties, said that the film “is a brilliant weaving of comic and tragic strands, eloquent, tearful, beguiling, with supreme virtuosity.”

Limelight won an Academy Award for the best original musical score of the year. It will be presented Saturday, September 10 and Sunday September 11 at 8:00 and 7:00 respectively, at the Cay Street Theater in Washington. RAAC is a non-profit Rappahannock community organization.
