Special Programs coordinator Pamela Rowe appeared before the school board at its regular June meeting to explain three summer enrichment programs and to present new state requirements for gifted and talented identification.
Gifted and talented students, Rowe explained, would in the future be identified according to six mayor areas of interest and ability. In addition, die said, the school would be responsible for locating “culturally different students” and “gifted underachievers.”
“This has become quite similar to the special education procedures,” Rowe said, “as far as referral, screening and placement.”
