The adventures of Jelly Fudge haven’t been syndicated yet but folks who know Anthony Fudd and his artistic talents are betting that his comic strip character will one day rank right up there with Dennis, Charlie Brown and the kids from Bloom County.
A seventh grader at Rappahannock Elementary School, Anthony has always liked to draw but it wasn’t until fourth grade and Laurie Marshall’s gifted and talented program that he discovered the knack for mixing humor and art in comic strip form. “The gifted and talented program really started me on this,” Anthony reported.
His hero is Jelly Fudge, modeled after his brother, Jeff. “Jelly Fudge was his nickname at the high school. Some of the kids still call him that,” reported Anthony, grinning widely. Jelly shares the spotlight with a dog, a very smart dog that’s always playing tricks on the boy. Initially, the dog was based on Snoopy from the Peanuts strip. Then when Anthony was shopping at the Manassas Mall for his 11th birthday and finding nothing that he wanted, he spotted a lady carrying a little dog in her handbag, a puppy tiny enough to fit in the palm of his hand.
