Question: What about emergencies, such as power failures and floods?
Answer We would have emergency contingency plans. We would have a clear-cut policy of what should be done in case of an emergency—whether it be a helicopter service, four-wheel drive vehicle with scrapper blade or outside contract with somebody to provide services.
In regard to power failures, we would have back-up generators. We would coordinate with the power company our plan so they could see our facility’s requirements and make repairs quickly.
We would rely on county services only when necessary, but realize that there may be a need.
Detailed emergency plans are required by state law. We would have to adhere to all regulations as required.
Question: Will the project harm Rush River, the Washington Town well, or private wells in Harris Hollow?
Answer: I hired a hydrogeologist from Charlottesville to come up here and look at the situation and give me an evaluation.
I instructed him to give me a report regardless of what effect it would have on the project because I have relatives and friends who live in the town and do not want the town water supply or Rush River to be contaminated.
The report that he’s given me is that it will not, in his opinion, contaminate the town well and will have a negligible effect on Rush River. The report is significant because the hydrogeologist explains that the small amount of treated effluent will not effect the river.
As far as effect on adjoining wells, there will not be an impact because we are isolated by distance from the watershed of adjoining property areas. This also was explained by the hydrogeologist.
I also wrote to the state water control board following the April 26 meeting, requesting a study as to possible contamination of the town water, Rush River and the water supplies of adjoining property areas. They have yet to respond. I have called them several times. They said they were working on it.
