Labor Day Closings Announced
County and state offices, banks, post offices, schools and many businesses will be closed Monday, September 3, in recognition of Labor Day.
Rappahannock’s Mental Health Clinic will be closed; however, in the event of an emergency, staff can be reached at 675-3329.
The Rappahannock News office also will be closed Monday. Ads can be placed on Tuesday, when regular business hours resume, until 5 p.m.
• Still Awaiting Coroner’s Reports
The Rappahannock County Sheriffs Department has not received either of two coroner’s reports that may provide more insight in the shooting and vehicular deaths of two men August 18 on the Shade Road. According to Sheriff John Henry Woodward, the reports can take up to two weeks.
The Washington Post reported August 28 the two men had been smoking marijuana and drinking beer prior to the incident. The report quoted Sheriff Woodward, who said that information was gathered from an eyewitness who had traveled with the two men to the residence where all three had come to help a family move into the county.
• Ordinance Work Session Friday
Rappahannock’s Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors will meet in joint work session August 31 at the courthouse beginning at 7:30 p.m. The work session was called to review the county’s proposed zoning ordinance, and make revisions in preparation for a series of community meetings to be scheduled later around the county. The public is welcome at this work session, which is advertised in this edition of the Rappahannock News.
