new facility, which Harris said was “pretty much fixed in June. ”
But the 75-foot setback, she added, will mean the new building can be built closer to utility lines—and a planned playground won’t border a swamp.
“It’s safer, more desirable for children,” said Harris.
Other plans for the new facility include separating the rectangular structure into four areas:
•Infant, toddler and two-year-old care.
•Pre- and in-school child care.
•An administrative and kitchen complex.
•A community room available to groups and organizations in Rappahanock.
This room will double as a gymnasium and indoor play area, and takes up 1,050 square feet.
The 4,360 square foot new building contains 16 rooms, including what Harris calls “three very large rooms,” and is designed to accommodate more than the “62 to 65” children the executive director said the center plans to take in during the next few years.
She also said the new facility could be occupied by as many as 85 children if we had to. “It would be a tight building, but it could accommodate (the children).”
