Before setting meeting times and dates, however, the planners thought it would be necessary to conduct another work session in order to revise some items in the proposed ordinance that caused concern during the August 15 public hearing.
The supervisors agreed, and motioned to conduct a joint work session on the proposed ordinance August 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the courthouse.
Forrest Whorton of Amissville asked if the supervisors and planners would post a notice for the local sessions. Planning Commission Chairman A.Y. Stokes said a schedule would be advertised in the Rappahannock News. Supervisor Charles “Pete” Estes said one week’s notice of these public meetings would be required, and that requirement would be met.
The schedule of upcoming activity on the proposed zoning ordinance, suggested by Commissioner Miller, is threefold:
• Conduct a planner-supervisor work session during which a point-bypoint review of the proposed zoning ordinance will take place. The work session will occur August 31;
• Arrange meetings around the county, by district, during which the public will have an opportunity to discuss the proposed zoning ordinance;
• Conduct another public hearing at which all citizens can participate again.
Planning Commission Chairman Stokes would not speculate as to how long the process of public hearings may take; neither planners nor supervisors, however, were in a hurry. Said Chairman Stokes: “It may be some time.”
