Rappahannock Writers Registered
Two writers from Rappahannock, Van Veselka and Cathrine Kiley, have been accepted as part of the Virginia Center for Creative Arts’ Writers’ Registry. They will be included with a list of writers available for readings and workshops at colleges, schools, libraries, hospitals, nursing homes and community art centers.
Veselka read his prose/poem “Roadrunners” at the June RAAC Talent Showcase; Kiley, also a poet, created “Voices of Rappahannock.”

• Older Virginians To Meet
Rappahannock senior citizens age 60 and up are invited to meet Tuesday, September 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the courthouse, reports Truman J. Keesey, representative to Older Virginians for Action, the senior task force sponsored by the state Democratic Party.
Keesey will explain details involved in organizing and becoming a f 'part of this senior-citizen network of Virginia.
• Humane Society Meeting Sept. 6
A meeting to organize a Rappahannock chapter of the state’s humane society is scheduled September 6 at the Washington Fire Hall at 7:30 p.m., Teddy Hannon of Castleton announces.
Walt Lane, president of the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies, will be the guest speaker.
Lane met July 30 with about 20 Rappahannock residents to discuss county violations of the state’s animal-shelter laws. Lane said at that time legal moves to force the county into compliance with state animalwelfare laws were “forthcoming.”
