To the editor;
I have a few questions concerning the proposed 1964 zoning ordinance:
I. Why did our Planning Commission, some members of which have 1012 years experience in planning and zoning and Board of Supervisor related duties, hire Mr. Richiurd McNear to write our zoning ordinance? Their answer at the August 15th hearing was that “no lay person can write a legally binding zoning ordinance.”
I feel that within our local county government there are several individuals that are qualified to protect the county from developers and exploiters. We have a capable commonwealth attorney and our previous commonwealth attorney was a capable man. We have one member on the BZA that is a practicing attorney. Our zoning administrator is a practicing attorney. I’m sure some of these individuals could have had valuable input and could have written a legally defensible ordinance that is understandable by the public.
II. Why did the county pay $6,000 for a slightly reworded copy of Fauquier County Zoning Ordinance, when anyone who wants one can obtain one for $15.
III. Would it not be better to dispose of the proposed 1964 ordinance and write a new one rather than continue down a road that will lead to per
