“Community” meetings on Rappahannock’s proposed zoning ordinance will take place by district throughout the county, although specific dates have yet to be announced. That was the decision made August 23 during a joint meeting of the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission.
The planners and supervisors discussed the county’s proposed zoning ordinance following a joint public hearing at which amendments to the 1973 Zoning Ordinance were made. (Amendments affected the rear setback requirement in an agricultural zone and public waste-water treatment facilities. See separate reports on this page.)
The planners wanted input from the supervisors regarding the proposed zoning ordinance, which met protest from citizens August 15 during a public hearing held at the elementary school.
More than 40 people were in the audience at the courthouse Thursday night-all anxious to hear what the planners would do next. The decision of the planners and supervisors was unanimous.
“I think we should have one meeting in each district,” Commissioner Werner Krebser suggested.
Commissioner Newbill Miller asked the supervisors where to hold the separate community meetings, each to be attended by the planning commissioners and the supervisors.
Supervisor Hubert Gilkey III suggested starting the community meetings in Wakefield District, possibly at the fire station either in Chester Gap or Flint Hill.
