Asked about the urgency of Rappahannock’s waste disposal dilemma, Lane said that the permit for our present landfill expires on June 30. He added, “I don’t think we can make that deadline...but we have to do something.” Lane did not rule out the possibility of landfilling as a means of waste disposal for Rappahannock.
Supervisor Baldwin referred to a possible arrangement between Rappahannock and Harrisonburg, saying that right now “it is the most feasible way we could go.” What stands in the way, said Baldwin, is a long-term contract with the City of Harrisonburg.
