In a recent issue of Parade Magazine, which some readers may have seen, columnist Jack Anderson issued “A Personal Appeal” to the American people entitled We Can Help End Government Waste. Anderson listed examples of waste in federal spending such as $387 washers and $37 screws which in the open market retail for pennies; such as civil service workers retiring eight years earlier and collecting triple the pension benefits of private workers; and so on and on.
