the utility tax for the past six months, but a regulation found recently could threaten the continued collection of the tax and the Council’s attempt to get the telephone tax.
The regulation is that in order to collect the taxes, a municipality must provide water or sewer service and polite or fire protection. The town already provides water service, but does not provide either police or fire protection. Mayor Peter Kramer said that he would research the possibilities of hiring a town constable before the Council’s next meeting in February.
