Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Goddard and daughter Caroline have returned to Quaint Acres, their home here, after a week’s vacation at Long Beach, N.

Congratulations to Mrs. Ruth Brown Updike, a Boston native, who has been named by Governor Baliles to the Local Government Advisory Council. She will also serve on the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Small Business. We also have learned that Ruth has just returned from a stay in Culpeper Memorial Hospital and all her friends are wishing her a speedy recovery, so she can get on with her work.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Frazier, Michele, Michael and Christopher were luncheon guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Meade in Culpeper. They were joined by Mrs. Alvin Atkins of Sperryville.

Mrs. Louise Clinedinst of New Market was an overnight guest Thursday of her son and daughterin-law the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Clinedinst and Teresa.

The Salem Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will serve a ham and chicken dinner at the fire hall Saturday, August 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. For a good home cooked meal don’t miss it. The public is invited.

Last Sunday Mrs. Cary Thornhill received a big surprise upon her return from church. Family members and friends had already arrived, bringing with them baskets, of food and all together they enjoyed a delightful luncheon. In the group were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thornhill of Vienna, Mr. and Mrs. Hank Gross of Silver Spring, Md., and Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Thornhill and infant daughter Brittany of Culpeper.

Miss Tonya Cave has returned home after an extended visit with Mr. and Mrs. Billy Fincham and Donna at Belle Court, Culpeper.

Rev. Charles Clinedinst conducted a gospel service in Stanley Friday evening.

Jimmie Bennett of Springfield visited his mother Mrs. James L. Bennett Saturday.

Mrs. Jean Smoot was host to a Home Interior party Thursday evening at her home on 615, with a goodly number in attendance.

Mr. and Mrs. Shelvy Frazier spent the past week on a trip to Georgia.
