“It was an excellent, fast-flowing game,” said Bill Fannon, who hosted the match at his Laurel Hill Farm at Castleton. “Middleburg has a wellbalanced team.” Asked if he felt the heat (90 degrees-plus with humidity hovering in the 80 to 90 percent range), Mr. Fannon replied, “We’re used to playing in the hot weather . . .it’s hard on the horses and the players, but everyone is playing with the same handicap as far as the weather is concerned. ”
Mr. Fannon added that he and his wife, Mary Frances, were pleased with the turnout and happy to host the match for the Hospice, “a worthy cause for a fine organization. We’re planning this as an annual event, and we hope to have a game here every year.”
