The primary competition for Newman should be fellow TransAm racer Paul Miller from New Jersey, in the Paul Miller Racing Porsche 924 turbo. Miller’s Porsche appeared quite competitive at the June Summit Point National, but mid-race mechanical ills sidelined the ever-quick 1985 Summit Point TransAm polesitter. Jerry Kuhn, of West Berlin, N. J., could upset Newman’s plans. Kuhn, a veteran Summit Point racer, has more experience around the 15-year-old Summit Point Raceway than either Newman or Miller.
