Mr. Lester L. Yates of
Sperryville retired Monday, July 31, after serving 34 years as rural mail carrier for the United States Post Office in Washington, Virginia. Mr. Yates is a native of Rappahannock County, bom and reared in the F.T. Valley next door to where he now lives. He is the son of the late William R. Yates and Tiilie Alice Yates.
The Auxiliary of the Washington Baptist Church will meet at 2:30 p.m. Mrs. L. J. Turner will be in charge of the program, Anniversary Year of the Sunbeam Band.

Parched pastures and curling
com give bleak testimony of the countless days which turn into endless weeks with soaring temperatures and little or no rain in Rappahannock County and other areas. The drought situation here has become critical. Only .70 of an inch of rainfall has been measured during July in Amissville. In the Washington area, Miss Ruby Jenkins reports .56 of an inch total for July. The June total at Washington was 1.39.
Mrs. Ellen Gore Crooks was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army on July 19, 1966. She is a graduate of Rappahannock County High School and was graduated from the University of Virginia School of Nursing in 1965. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gore of
