Fire and rescue units from Washington, Sperryville, Amissville, Flint Hill, Chester Gap and Castleton as well as a passing unit from F and F Ambulance Service in Winchester responded to the scene. State Police troopers and Rappahannock Sheriffs Department deputies provided traffic control.
Fire and rescue units from Company 6 in Fauquier County were called into the Amissville area to provide back-up coverage for Rappahannock, since all the county’s companies were on call at the accident scene.
Quick action by members of a Highway Department road crew prevented the leaking diesel fuel from seeping into the drainage culvert. The crew blocked the flow of fuel with hay bales, creating a makeshift dam to contain the spill until the truck could be moved.
