The stated objective of the congress is to build unity for effective solutions to the farm crisis. A great deal of effort is being made to encourage farmers and other rural people from varying points of view and from a variety of farm and rural organizations to be a part of the process.

Other caucuses are being scheduled throughout the region to drawfarmers from Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.
