What do coons hollering and Miss Virginia have in common? No, they’re not both from Chester Gap, but they were both part, of the 30th' annual Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department’s parade held last Thursday evening.
Riding atop a convertible, Julianne Smith, this year’s Miss Virginia, cruised down Main Street waving to the crowd. Her car stopped in front of the judges’ stand and she was escorted to her seat. “I had a really good time and met some very nice people,” Miss Smith said after the parade.
Maurice “Mo” Walker, chairman of the parade committee for the past 12 years, has arranged for Miss Virginia to lead the parade since 1964.
The weather cooperated, the turnout for the parade was excellent and everybody seemed to have a good time at the event.
