Extension Office personnel have been asked to assist the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in the distribution of free hay donated from various states for the use of livestock producers hit by severe drought.
Producers should contact the Extension Office at (>75-3619 if they are interested in receiving such hay. The office will relay the producer’s name, address, and telphone number to the proper person(s).
A toll-free number has been established for farmers who would like to receive a list of persons having hay for sale. That number is 1-800552-1833.
“Don’t forget to call or come by the Extension Office so that we can compile a list of producers who are in need of hay,” the Extension Agent said.
