At its July 23 meeting, the Rappahannock County Library Board appointed Mrs. William (Mitzie) Young as the program chairman. “We want everyone to know that Mitzie Young, a person of many interests and professional experience, will lend a sympathetic ear to all suggestions for programs and that she would like to discuss them with you,” said Library Trustee Mary Quaintance.
“When you know of Mrs. Young’s many past involvements,” continued Mrs. Quaintance, “you’ll agree she’s a most qualified program chairman.” She received her bachelor of arts degree from Cornell University and her master’s degree in social work from the University of Chicago, and was chief psychiatric social worker at the Mental Health Department of the District of Columbia, a position she left to raise a family of two boys and two girls with the full cooperation of Dr. William Young.
During and after this project, Mitzie Young was director of Alexandria’s United Way, program chairman and president of the Women’s Auxiliary to the Alexandria Medical Society, vice-president of the League of Women Voters of Alexandria, and co-chairman of the Alexandria Women’s Committee for the National Symphony Orchestra.
The Youngs moved to Rappahannock permanently in 1974 after having been weekenders since 1963. Locally, Mrs. Young continues her community activities as program chairman of the American Association of University Women, Culpeper Branch, and program chairman for RLEP. At present she is an active realtor associated with Eileen M. Day Realtors.

LFCC has two
orientations
Lord Fairfax Community College held the first of three orientation sessions for in-coming freshman on July 24 and 25. The orientation sessions are designed to acquaint new students with the college, its programs and its services. Orientation students also have a special early registration day to insure proper selection of classes. New students are urged to attend one of the orientation sessions.
Others are scheduled on August 18 and 19. For further information or to register for orientation, contact a counselor at Lord Fairfax Community College at 869-1120.
