Kimberly Joseph for the Rappahannock News COL. RICHARD JAMES KIRKPATRICK was posthumously awarded the China War Memorial Medal from the Republic of China (Taiwan). Accepting the award was his son Roderick (right), of Flint Hill. Col. Kirkpatrick served with the Flying Tigers and the 14th Air Force under the command of General Claire Chennault from December 1941 through December 1945. The medal is awarded to members of the armed forces who served in China during World War II. The medal was presented by John J. Guthrie of Castleton, chairman of the China War Memorial Medal Committee. Col. Kirkpatrick lived at Rampart Stud Farm, Marshall, and also resided in Warrenton for some years.
