One of the main attractions at the carnival was the “ultimate dunk tank” borrowed from tbe Front Royal Volunteer Fire Department. Miss Rappahannock, Cheryl Romaine, and Elaine McCabe took turns on the swing above the water and provided the bait for the throwers. Their attempts were accompanied by wisecracks from the announcer on every toss.
The Chevrolet Chevette, auctioned off every year by the Fire Department, was won by E. J. Pullen, Jr. of Warrenton. Other prizes were a registered Black Angus donated by Admiral Josef Gardner, won by Bill Dainty of Front Royal. The Redskins’ season tickets went to Jerry Payne of Washington; a set of living room furniture was won by Jackie Bottash of Arlington; the handmade quilt went to Cecil Armstrong of Sperryville and the fire
