Statewide agriculture reports varied, according to the update. Corn was reported very poor except in the southwestern mountains. Some farmers have begun to graze livestock on or “green chop’’ their corn fields. Pastureland and hay conditions are “dismal”. The report notes that many farmers are feeding scarce hay to livestock or “were forced ... to sell livestock because of inadequate pastures.” Apples and peaches were said to be in “fair to good condition (although) the fruit has sized small due to the lack of moisture.”
