RCHS fall sports tryouts
All athletes planning to go out for a fall sport at RCHS should make plans to meet August 11 with practice clothes and a current (after July 1, 1986) doctor’s physical. Physical forms are available at RCHS any weekday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Athletes will not be allowed to practice until their coach has the proper physical in hand.
Tryouts for girls’ basketball (varsity and JV) will start at 10 a.m. August 11 in the RCHS gymnasium. Girls interested in trying out but unable to attend this first meeting must call Coach Leake at 987-8236.
Tryouts for soccer and cross country (boys and girls) will be held at 6 p.m. August 12 at the high school. Soccer members should meet on the soccer field while cross country members are to meet on the outside bleachers.
Cheerleaders will be contacted directly at a later date for their start-up meeting.
Any athlete wishing to go out for one of these sports but w'ho is unable to make the first meeting should call RCHS (987-8575) and leave a message that will be relayed to the coach. This includes any girls’ basketball player not able to get in touch with Coach Leake.
Homemakers schedule meeting
The Flint Hill Extension Homemakers will meet Tuesday, August 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Earl Duvall. All members are urged to attend.
Jenkins family reunion
'Die annual reunion of the family of the late Alfred and Catherine Gearing Jenkins will be held Sunday, August 10, at Rappahannock Park on Route 211, Washington. All friends and relatives are urged to attend. Lunch will be served at 12:30.
Double feature at Gay Street Theatre
A double feature show will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre on August 9 and 10. The first show Huey Long is a documentary on Huey Long that gives us a glimpse of him through rare newsreel clips and newly filmed interviews. The movie is unrated.
All the Kings’ Men, starring Broderick Crawford, Joanne Dru, John Ireland and John Derek, will also be playing. This Academy Award winning film from the Pulitzer Price winning novel by Robert Penn Warren depicts the life of the late Louisiana governor Huey Long and the corrupt political machine he built.
Summer programs
The Child Care and Learning Center is sponsoring the following summer programs: fun and fitness, July 28-August 6, ages 12-16, hours 9-noon; painting class, July 21July 25, ages 6-10, hours 9:30^ noon; handicrafts, August 8-August 15, ages 6-10, hours 9-1. Details on kindergarten preparation will be announced later.

Washington Business Council to meet
The Washington Business Council will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, August 7, at 7:30 p.m. at Brambles Cafe. Any business owners in the town of Washington are invited to attend.
Benefit program at Hopewell
A benefit program will be presented Sunday, August 10, at 2:30 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church. The program is sponsored by Mrs. Minnie Brokenburr. Rev. U. S. Brokenburr is pastor of Hopewell. All are invited to attend.
Extension office offers CPR
CPR classes will be conducted by Extension Agent Sandra Richardson at the Child Care and Learning Center August 9 and 16 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The cost will be $7.50.
