The county is scheduled to begin a general reassessment of real estate this year. To serve on a Board of Assessors which will work with a professional appraiser, the supervisors named James D. DeBergh, Jr., from Hampton District, James Leake from Piedmont and E. P. Luke from Stonewall-Hawthom. Supervisor Hubert Gilkey said he will have a recommendation on an assessor from Wakefield District at the board’s next meeting. Supervisor J. R. Latham of Jackson District was not present on Monday.
To fill the vacancy left by the resignation of David Thornhill, the supervisors appointed Robert Anderson as the Stonewall-Hawthom representative on the county’s Planning Commission.
Mi-. McCarthy was named Rappahannock’s Litter Control Coordinator and member of a committee which will initiate application for a $3,000 litter control grant from the state. David Chuse of Castleton is also on the committee, and the Rappahannock County Garden Club will be asked to suggest a third member from its ranks. Preliminary indication is that the grant funds will be used to clean up illegal dump sites.
Supervisors Lane, Miller and Estes huddled over a list of the county’s delinquent taxpayers. However, the board agreed by consensus to follow past practice and withhold the list from paid publication.
After a short executive session for personnel, Supervisor Miller announced that the board had taken action to equalize salaries for deputies to the county treasurer and commissioner of revenue.
