Congressman D. French Slaughter Jr. met with Senator Warner, members of Virginia Farm Bureau administration, farmers, and representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USD A) Drought Task Force in Albemarle County to discuss the coordination of federal-state drought relief efforts in Virginia.
It has been determined that seven counties in the Seventh District of Virginia qualify for natural disaster relief, and nine other Seventh District counties may qualify for some disaster relief. Farmers in counties that have been placed on the emergency disaster list are entitled to lower than market prices on livestock feed, low interest loans and possibly loan payment deferrals on a case-by-case basis.
