However, many people are reluctant to call the Sheriffs Department, Deputy Jenkins said, because they are afraid that someone they love will be arrested. In fact, the deputy said, making arrests in domestic situations is “the lowest priority." The main concern of law enforcement is “to defuse the situation, take any weapons away and make sure that any children involved are safe.”
