‘Tough Guys’
The movie Tough Guys will be playing at the Gay Street Theatre Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27 and 28, at 7:30 each evening. Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas are a delight as the quintessential tough guys, a couple of notorious train robbers who are released into modern-day L. A. after a 30-year stretch in the pen. Tough Guys is a whimsical cinematic treat that packs a two-fisted comic punch audiences will find irresistible. The movie is rated PG. Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Fashion show planned
The Rappahannock Woman’s Club will sponsor a fashion show on the theme “Luck of the Irish” on Sunday, March 13, at 2 p.m. at the Rappahannock Elementary School. Advance tickets and/or patron ads may be purchased from any member.
Extension seminar planned
The second annual Virginia Conference on Sustainable Agriculture will be held Saturday, March 5, at the Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg. Call the Extension Office at 675-3619 for additional information and registration forms.
Sight and hearing screening
The Lions Club mobile screening unit will be in Rappahannock County on March 9, 10 and 11. The van is equipped with the latest vision and hearing-testing equipment, including diabetes and non-contact glaucoma testing devices. The testing is free and available to everyone. For more information contact any Lions Club member.
Barbecue dinner planned
A barbecue dinner will be served at Rappahannock County Elementary School on Wednesday, March 2, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. to benefit the annual seventh grade class trip to Williamsburg, Jamestown and Richmond. Garden Club to sponsor trip
to Philadelphia Flower Show
The Rappahannock County Garden Club is sponsoring a trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show on Wednesday, March 9. The cost of $28 includes the bus fare and admission to the flower show. The bus will leave the Sperryville Emporium at 7:30 a.m. and will stop at the new commuter parking lot outside Warrenton around 8 a.m. A check for $28 should be made out to the Rappahannock County Garden Club and sent to Mrs. Eino Siira, Rt. 1, Box 285-C, Sperryville 22740. Only a few seats are left for this trip so call Mrs. Siira at 987-8385 for your reservation.
Litter meeting March 7
The Rappahannock Anti-Litter League and You (RALLY) will meet Monday, March 7, at 7 p.m. at the Courthouse. According to Litter Coordinator Nina Stamer, the purpose is to plan the county’s spring clean-up, set for Saturday, April 23. For more information about RALLY, to suggest target areas for clean-up or to volunteer call 675-3810.
County Democrats to meet
The Democratic Committee will meet at the courthouse in Washington on Wednesday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the several Democractic presidential candidates in preparation for the Primary on Super Tuesday, March 8. Anyone who is interested in the election may attend and participate in the discussion.
