The election of school board members is just such an issue. Virginia is the only state left which does not allow even one of its localities the option of electing members of their ^own school boards. Round and round we go, but each year the Democratic members of the House and Senate Privileges and Elections committees refuse to listen to popular opinion and kill this initiative before it gets to the floor of either the House or Senate. Like • ! last year’s workshop by Ms. . Portman, “Folktale into The.. ater,” the focus may be a folk or . fairy tale, myth or legend. 1 > It also may be a poem, a monologue, a bit of personal history or a work of art, says Ms. • Portman. Participants will collaborate, using movement, voice, music and fabric. Key to the , exercise will be learning basic . techniques of collaboration.
Ms. Portman, a Rappahannock resident since 1984, is an . Obie Award-winning theater di. rector and performer. She is the artistic director of the Golden v Key Performance group and works privately with individuals and groups.
