get volunteer rescue squads out, especially during the day. Even at night, it takes time to get from home to the squad building, assemble a crew and drive to the scene, which in the country may be 10 or 15 minutes away. That’s too long if the patient has stopped breathing or the heart has stopped.
However, if CPR is begun immediately, and continued until the squad arrives, the patient has a greater chance of survival.
We need members of the community to respond to our request to help us help you.
Think of the members of your own family: your husband, wife, children or infant. Who will be there to help them? Who will be there to do what counts in the few precious minutes which may mean the difference between life and death? Who will help your friends, or your co-workers?
You can help them, perhaps make the difference — if you are trained in CPR.
Members of the Sperryville Rescue Squad would like to teach some CPR courses to the community during the next few weeks. Anyone who is interested in taking the course, which leads to a Red Cross certification, please contact me at 987-8655.
