for the Panthers in the district tournament, provided the members of the team play to their potential. He added that the clutch performance from the bench last Friday is a “big plus” going into the playoffs.
“It makes me feel good,” he said, “to know that I can go to my bench with confidence.”
Coach Leake said that a strong bench will be the key to success in the tournament, since the final two teams will have played three games in four days — a total of 92 minutes. No team, he added, can ask its starting five to play that whole time.
With that edge off the bench, he’s looking for consistent play from each member of the team. “I’m not saying that each member of the team needs to play an outstanding game, what I mean is that everyone has to play to his best ability.
“If we play to our potential, we can play with and beat any team in the district — including Central.” The Falcons are the favorite in the district tournament, since they carry a number 3 state rank in the division and a guaranteed berth in the regional tournament next week.
But that doesn’t make them unbeatable, Coach Leake was quick to point out. Rappahannock lost to the Falcons by a total of only 10 points in two garhes.
