fastened so as to prevent the shifting or falling of such load from the vehicle.”

Earlier this session, the House Roads Committee killed a House bill similar to SB 402. It is expected that SB 402 will also be killed in this committee.

Recognizing that there is a need for stricter laws relating to trucks with open cargo beds, I have agreed to work with Senator Charles Waddell, chairman of the Transportation Committee, in hopes of introducing acceptable legislation in 1989 that would require covers over certain types of loads such as lime, sand, and other products prone to blow out of the cargo bed of a truck traveling at highway speeds.

If you would like to tell me your views on this or any other legislation, please call or write Senator Kevin Miller, General Assembly Building 355, State Capitol, Richmond 23219; phone (804) 786-7288, or General Information 786-6530 or 786-7281.

Sen. Kevin Miller represents Rappahannock County in the Virginia State Senate. The Harrisonburg resident was elected to his second term last November.
