“But he doesn’t know what goes into the dumpsters,” said Supervisor Mike Massie, questioning whether any operating approach will be completely successful at keeping potentially hazardous waste — from pesticide containers to empty paint cans — from being dumped in the landfill.
“From a management point of view, I’d want a county employee,” said Mr. McCarthy. That way, if procedures aren’t being followed properly, there’s no chain of command to go through in taking corrective action; responsibility can be assessed immediately and forcefully, the board's assistant noted. “On the other hand, there are a lot more costs than if you contract with a private licensed landfill o(>erator . . .
